Chalet Operator Goes Into Liquidation

Luxury chalet company Descent has gone into liquidation, following several smaller companies including Ski All America and Indigo Lodges. Descent began operating in 1997 and offered high-end accommodations for holiday travelers and vacationers in France and Switzerland. It was known for having some of the nicest properties available for skiers and travelers in the Alps, with private homes that ranged from simple but elegant to over-the-top grandeur and magnificence.

Despite the record snow falls in Europe last winter, many operators and booking agencies are experiencing significant declines in advance bookings for the 2009-2010 ski season. The company’s demise has left a number of chalet owners with beds to fill for the winter. Advance bookings throughout the Alps are at their lowest level for 10 years.

The chalets offered by Descent included grand master suites, personal chauffeurs, in-house spa treatments, gourmet chefs, indoor pools and saunas, private wine cellars and more. Its spectacular portfolio of high-end chalets attracted a guest list of some very prominent names from the UK. A few of Descent’s elite clientele included Prince Andrew the Duke of York, novelist J.K. Rowling, Rowan Atkinson as well as Victoria and David Beckham. The Duke of York has reportedly lost thousands of pounds from his deposit on an impeccable private chalet rental in the renowned Swiss ski resort, Klosters.
